Trump welcomes Keir Starmer of the United Kingdom for discussions in Ukraine in the midst of disagreement on security guarantees

President Donald Trump welcomes the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Keir Starmer on Thursday at the White House.

The two leaders held a bilateral meeting at the Oval Office and should hold a press conference in the Eastern Hall.

High administration officials have told journalists that a large part of the conversations between Trump and Starmer would focus on a peaceful resolution for the Russian-Ukraine War.

The meeting comes after Europe has been excluded from talks between the United States and Russia on how to end the brutal invasion of Ukraine by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has recently extended to his fourth year.

Trump has since declared that Europe will have to carry out the main responsibility of any security guarantee for Ukraine, as nations like France and the United Kingdom urge the United States to support peacekeeping efforts after the conflict.

“Well, I’m not going to make security guarantees beyond,” said Trump at his first firm meeting on Wednesday. “We are going to make Europe do this because it is in, you know, we are talking about Europe is the neighbor next door, but we will make sure that everything is going well.”

Trump also suggested that the mineral resource agreement between the United States and Ukraine would be “automatic security” because the United States will invest in the nation and this would serve as an obstacle to Russia.

Starmer said he would make sure that the United Kingdom is a “leading country” in European nations that will intervene to support Ukraine, but said there should be an American “net” to dissuade Putin.

“I do not think that it is a guarantee if there is no American security net behind these security guarantees,” said Starmer after European leaders held an emergency meeting in Paris on Ukraine last week when Trump officials gathered with Russian counterparts in Saudi Arabia.

Administration officials said the United States was in constant contact with European partners and provided updates on negotiations for an agreement to end the war.

Meanwhile, the Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine is expected to go to Washington, DC on Friday.

Ukraine is working to win an American security agreement as part of the proposed mineral agreement, Zelenskyy told Kiev in kyiv.

Thursday, senior officials of the Trump administration, taking questions to journalists, were questioned about the United Kingdom’s request for an American security net with European peacekeeping efforts and if the United States is ready to provide air defense systems for a security guarantee.

An official has referred to Trump’s comments at the meeting of the cabinet, saying that the main objective is to create lasting peace and reiterate previous declarations that “the economic partnership with Ukrainians does not include any specific funding guarantee for future war fights, or not committed from American staff in the region”.

Another official has argued that many countries have concerns about the establishment of boots in the field in Ukraine.

“I would say that there is a balance between the size of the necessary force and the force of diplomacy which, which secures it,” said a manager.

“If this level of conflict, as we want, is made up of a functional ceasefire, they would have fewer concerns … So the type of force depends a lot on the political self-adjusting that is made to end the war,” continued the official. “And I think that the compromise is that the leaders today, part of what the leaders will discuss.”
