“Blood on your Hands”: the mayors of the “sanctuary cities” grilled during the audience of the house

The Democratic mayors of Boston, Chicago, Denver and New York repulsed the claims of the Republicans of the Chamber on Wednesday that they are home to dangerous immigrants and violated immigration laws as so-called “sanctuar cities”.
During a hearing of the chamber’s supervisory committee on Wednesday, the mayor of Boston Michelle Wu, the mayor of Chicago Brandon Johnson, the mayor of Denver Mike Johnston and the mayor of New York, Eric Adams, all defended their actions on the application of immigration in their respective cities as republicans within the committee accused them of increasing crime and the implementation of the law.
President James Comer, a Republican, said that these mayors were directing cities that have only “sanctuary for criminals” and have promised to keep them responsible for “their inability to follow the law and protect the American people”. Commer and other Republicans of the Committee suggested that mayors should do more to cooperate with the Trump administration and its expulsion efforts.

Sanctuar cities still apply American Federal Immigration Laws, but the term often refers to limited collaboration with American immigration and the application of customs while adopting policies more favorable to undocumented persons.
“As mayor, I do not control who between or stay in our country, but I must manage the population in our city,” said Adams, who declared as mayor of New York that he works with the Trump administration on immigration aid. “In order to fulfill this function without having a negative long -term ramification, I must create an atmosphere which allows each resident respectful of the laws, documented or not, to access vital services without fear of being given to the federal authorities.”

Wu said the Trump administration made residents “workers and taxpayers to the taxes and fearing their lives be to live their lives”.
“A city that is afraid is not a city that is sure. A land led by fear is not the land of free,” said Wu.

Democrats immediately criticized the Trump administration, arguing that the overcoming of federal officials led to illegal detentions and created fear in the communities.
“Let us be clear, the laws of the state and the Republicans with the Republicans are in question today are in full compliance with federal law. They do not obtain the ice of the execution of their functions, and they are supported by evidence demonstrating that they keep people in security,” said Gerry Connolly, member of the classification.
The hearing of the Wednesday committee intervenes when the officials of the administration of President Donald Trump intensified their efforts to apply immigration, the Attorney General Pam Bondi, closed federal subsidies to the sanctuary cities and the multiple threats of “Border Czar” Tom Homan towards these mayors if they refuse to comply.
During the conservative conference of political action last month, Homan criticized Boston and his police commissioner, claiming that he “would bring hell” to the city about his sanctuary city policy.
“Let’s talk about Tom Homan,” Wu said Wednesday. “Shame on him to lie in my city, to have had the cheek of insulting our police commissioner who supervised Boston’s safest in the life of anyone. Bring him here under oath, and ask him a few questions.”

The mayors have greatly rejected the statements of the Republicans that they welcome criminals in their cities, blaming the Trump administration to label immigrants and criminals and pushing statistics on deceptive crime.
“If you wanted to ensure us reforms of firearms,” added Wu later. “Stop cutting Medicaid. Stop cutting the search on cancer. Stop cutting funds for veterans. This is what will make our cities safe.”
Many Republican legislators have underlined specific incidents in each of the cities of the mayor about American citizens injured or killed in the hands of undocumented persons, trying to dispel the arguments of mayors.
Republican representative Jim Jordan had a controversial back and forth with Johnston involving a member of the Venezuelan gang who injured the police during an arrest. Due to the policy of the city of the state sanctuary, the police were forced to arrest man in public rather than traveling in the prison to hold him, which the Republicans criticized.
Republican representative Nancy Mace had hardwords for mayors, saying that “you all have blood on your hands” for the dead and injuries in the hands of these undocumented people.
“All the mayors here today actively work to harm the American people you represent,” said Mace. “You all have blood on your hands.”
While the members of the committee accused the mayors of having interfered with the expulsion efforts of Trump, the mayors continued to affirm that they were in accordance with the federal law.
However, the Republican representative Anna Paulina Luna challenged the allegations of the mayor and argued that the policies of the city of the sanctuary were in violation of the federal law, announcing that it would send criminal references to the Ministry of Justice.
“I don’t think you are bad people, but I think you are misleading ideologically, that is why, unfortunately, depending on your answers, I will all refer you to the Ministry of Justice for investigation, and as soon as I leave from here, they go to Pam Bondi,” said Luna.
“I don’t do that … [in] An effort to intimidate your guys, but I believe that your policies harm the American people. “”
