A santos in tears told the judge that he regrets fraud the voters who supported his race in 2022 for the congress before pronouncing the trouble.

“My conduct betrayed my supporters and the institutions I have tried to defend,” he said during his sentence of conviction in a New York Federal Court.

Santos, 36, was found guilty of wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. He was sentenced to a sentence of 75 to 87 months’ imprisonment, including a compulsory minimum sentence for aggravated identity theft.

Santos did not take any questions to journalists when he arrived at the Federal Court of Central Islip for the hearing for determining the Friday morning sentence.

In a legal file before the hearing for determining the long -term sentence in Long Island, the federal prosecutors asked for the maximum penalty possible – rising to seven years and three months – qualifying his conduct as “cheeky canvas of deception” which fraud the donors and deceived the voters.

They also argued that the recent “Blitz” of New York social media from New York shows that he “remains unrepentant for his crimes” in a subsequent file. In an example, the prosecutors underlined an article of April 4 on the Santos account of Santos who said: “No matter how much the Doj comes for me, they are crazy because they will never break my mind.” The position was carried out on the same day that the DOJ filed its initial recommendation for conviction.

Santos, meanwhile, insisted in a letter to judge Joanna Seybert this week that he “accepted his full responsibility” for his crimes. He said he can be both “deeply sorry” and upset by the recommendation of the Ministry of Justice for a long prison sentence.

“But to say that I am sorry, I do not wonder to sit quietly while these prosecutors try to drop an anvil on my head. The real remorse is not silent; he is aware of himself, and he speaks when the scale of penalty jumps in the absurd,” said Santos’ letter.

Santos has included a selective table to suggest that the recommendation for determining the government’s sentence is out of step with other political proceedings, citing the former representative of Illinois, Jesse L. Jackson Jr.

Santos asked for a two -year prison sentence.

Prosecutors allegedly alleged that Santos, with the help of his former campaign treasurer, Nancy Marks, falsified the deposits of the Federal Electoral Commission, making contributions to donors and inflating funds for collecting funds to reach the $ 250,000 threshold required to join the “Young Canons” program of the Congress National Republican Committee.

Marks pleaded guilty to an accusation of federal conspiracy in 2023 and awaited the conviction in May.

Santos pleaded guilty in August 2024. The Republican was expelled from the Congress in December 2023.

As part of his advice on advocacy, he agreed to pay nearly $ 600,000 in restitution and confiscation.

The judge agreed to delay the conviction of Santos, which was initially scheduled for February 7, after Santos asked for more time to earn money on his podcast to satisfy his restitution and confiscation.
