Iran rejects Trump’s request from direct nuclear negotiations, reports the state media

London – Tehran rejected direct negotiations with the United States with regard to its nuclear program, responding to a letter from President Donald Trump, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Sunday, the Islamic Republic news agency.

However, he added, the path of indirect negotiations remains open, reported the state news agency.

“In this response, although the direct negotiations between the two parties are rejected, it has been declared that the path of indirect negotiations is open,” said Pezeshkian.

Speaking at a meeting of the cabinet, Pezeshkian said that Iran’s response to the American president’s letter was sent via Oman.

He stressed that Iran had never avoided negotiations and blamed the United States for not having respected its former commitments, in particular by ending the former nuclear agreement during Trump’s first mandate in 2018.

It is the violation of commitments that caused problems on this path, which must be sent to restore confidence, the letter stressed, according to Pezeshkian.

“It will be the actions of the Americans who will determine if the negotiations continue,” he added.
