Friday, the White House released the budget proposed by President Donald Trump for the financial year 2026, which provides for $ 163 billion in federal expenses.
The director of the Russell Management and Budget Office, in a letter to the congress alongside the proposal, said that discretionary funding reductions would lead to “significant savings”.
“The President proposes a basic non -defensive discretionary budgetary authority of $ 163 billion – 22.6% lower – ongoing spending, while protecting funding for internal security, veterans, the elderly, the police and the infrastructure,” wrote Vought.
Although budgetary proposals are essentially a list of wishes for the administration, they are used to illustrate the president’s priorities and what the White House hopes to be a starting point for negotiations with the Congress.
The proposed cuts would come from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health and Social Services, the USAID and the Environmental Protection Agency, among others.
However, Trump offers a 13% increase in defense expenses to bring it to 1.01 dollars for the next fiscal year, said Vought.
The administration also offers $ 175 billion to go to the southern border and $ 134 million to strengthen the application of trade.
Trump’s proposal was criticized by the Republican senator Roger Wicker, president of the Senate Armed Services Committee, who postponed the Blanche House for Defense Expenditure.
“For the defense budget, Omb asked for a fifth consecutive year of financing the Biden administration, leaving flat military spending, which is a reduction in real terms,” Wicker wrote in a statement.

Several Republicans who were not afraid to challenge President Trump also published statements criticizing his budget request.
Senator Susan Collins, president of the Senate credits committee, said that she had “serious objections to the freezing freezing in our defense financing given the challenges we are faced with the financing reductions proposed for – and in certain cases of elimination of programs such as LIHEAP, TRIO and those who support biomedical research.

“This preliminary budgetary proposal is exceptionally bright on the details we desperately need – but that is clear: Trump wants to avoid programs that matter most for workers’ families,” said Murray.
Where Trump’s budget proposal in 2026 would reduce funding
The budget proposal aims at the programs that the administration has attacked in the past.
This would reduce the funding of the Bureau of Alcohol, tobacco, firearms and explosives (ATF), who, according to a senior White House, had “abusive regulatory decrees” on firearms. The cuts would also be in store for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), which, according to the manager, is used to “target conservative organizations”.

The proposed budget also eliminates the foreign aid of the USAID, rather providing foreign aid under the budget of the State Department.

The reduction in funds in this program is also contrary to one of President Trump’s campaign promises, which he will reduce energy bills for the Americans on day 1. A senior White House official, questioned about the reductions offered in Liheap, said there were abuses and fraud concerning the program.
