What happened before Trump, Zelenskyy embarked on the shouting match of the oval office

While the explosive meeting on Friday between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ended with a cries match, the start of the meeting of the oval office was full of optimism as to the signing of the mineral agreement.
Trump, who called the Ukrainian president a dictator last week, started the oval office spray in a more fluid way, saying: “We have known each other for a long time. We have faced ourselves for a long time and very well there. We had a little negotiation, but that worked well, I think, for the two countries.”
Zelenskyy was also optimistic about an agreement that would have given access to critical minerals in the United States from Ukraine.

“I hope this document will be the first step towards real security guarantees for Ukraine,” he said. “Our employees, our children are really counting on it. And, of course, we intend that America will not stop support. Really, for us, it is very important to support and continue it. I want to discuss it with details.”
Zelenskyy urged the United States to take a strong position in the judgment of Russian president Vladimir Putin, saying that he is a “killer” and “terrorist”.
“I hope that together, we can stop it. But for us, it is very important to save our country, our values, our freedom and our democracy,” said Zelenskyy.
Zelenskyy also stressed the importance of ensuring that the United States supports European security contingencies.
“I think France and the United Kingdom have already talked to you, and we know that Europe is ready, but without the United States, they will not be ready to be as strong as we need it,” he said.
However, Trump argued that Russia would not come back to his word once a peace agreement is concluded, and he refused to put himself in security guarantees that Zelenskyy declared that he considered as essential to any peace agreement.

“We are going to conclude an agreement,” he said. “I must first conclude the agreement. I am not worried about security at the moment.”
Other cracks began to show a little more than 10 minutes in the spray, including a notable moment when Zelenskyy and Trump did not agree on the quantity of support that Europe brought Ukraine.
“They really gave a lot, Mr. President,” said Zelenskyy.
“They gave a lot – but they gave much less,” replied Trump, without providing details.
“No,” Zelenskyy put back with a skepticism look, although they continued to keep the tone light.
Trump and Zelenskyy also disagreed on Putin’s reliability once an agreement is concluded, with Zelenskyy saying that Putin will never accept a cease-fire.
“It will not work without security guarantee,” added the Ukrainian president.

The president also defended his talks with Putin, saying that it is the only way to bring an agreement through the finish line when he was in a hurry that he is too aligned with Putin.
“I am not aligned with anyone. I am aligned with the United States of America. And for the good of the world,” said Trump.
Vice-president JD Vance then entered and continued to push Trump’s point, saying that President Joe Biden did not do enough to dissuade war.
At that time, Zelenskyy intervened, raising the difficulties of his country over the past decade, which has prompted Vance and Trump to cry to the Ukrainian president.
