Michigan reports the first epidemic of state measles since 2019, defined as at least three or more linked cases, according to Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS).
Three cases were confirmed in the county of Montcalm, according to a press release from the MDHHS.
Almost 25% of children under the age of 3 in Montcalm county did not receive their first dose of measles vaccine, mumps and rubella (MMR), according to the MDHHS vaccination data. The state reports a total of seven cases so far this year, including those infected in the epidemic.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have separated confirmed At least five other states with measles epidemics, including Texas, New Mexico, Ohio, Kansas and Indiana.
At the national level, there are more than 700 cases of measles in at least 24 states. It is the greatest number since 2019, which has experienced 1,274 cases. Texas constitutes most of these cases with more than 560 infections, including two deaths among children of non -vaccinated school age.

Health managers have urged anyone who is not vaccinated to receive the ROR vaccine.
CDC currently recommended People receive two doses of vaccine, the first at the ages of 12 to 15 months and the second between 4 and 6 years old. One dose is 93% effective and two doses are 97% effective to prevent measles. Most vaccinated adults do not need a booster.
During the decade before the measles vaccine was available in 1963, Three to four million people were infected each year, according to the CDC, with between 400 and 500 deaths.
