President Donald Trump is scheduled for Monday to welcome the president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, for a bilateral meeting at the White House.
Trump early Sunday told journalists that he thought Bukele was doing a “fantastic work” and “took care of many problems that we have that we really couldn’t take care of a cost point of view”.

While the second Trump administration has suppressed immigration, El Salvador accepted his custody of hundreds of members of alleged gangs. Many are accommodated in the country’s terrorism confinement center, a maximum security center for the most hardened criminals in El Salvador.
“We have very bad people in this prison, people who should never have been allowed in our country, people who murderers drug traffickers, some of the worst people on the prison and he is able to do so,” Trump said on Sunday.

At least one man, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, was expelled due to an “administrative error” and is detained in this notorious prison.
