Zelenskyy is preparing for the European summit in London after the Trump strength test

London – European leaders will meet in London on Sunday to meet the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, following a tumultuous White House meeting which prompted American-Ukrainian relations in crisis.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer “will intensify his efforts in pursuing a just and lasting peace in Ukraine” while organizing the Sunday summit in the British capital, a statement from his office said.

Speaking with BBC News on Sunday morning, Starmer said that he had agreed with President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron that the United Kingdom and France would work on a Ukrainian peace plan and then be presented – and discussed with – the United States.

Zelenskyy arrived in the United Kingdom on Saturday, directly from his visit to Washington, DC, in which an oval office meeting with Trump and vice-president JD Vance went down to an open argument in front of the journalists gathered.

European leaders were quick to join the Ukrainian leader and his team, although many highlighted the importance of kyiv’s maintenance, and to repair damaged relations – with the United States

“The Prime Minister reiterated this weekend of his unwavering support to Ukraine this weekend and is determined to find a path to follow which puts an end to the illegal war of Russia and guarantees that Ukraine is a sustainable peace based on sovereignty and security,” said the Starmer office in a press release.

Starmer spoke with Zelenskyy and Trump on Friday evening in the immediate consequences of the DC disastrous visit to the Ukrainian leader, which ended with the cancellation of a planned press conference and the Ukrainian delegation invited to leave the White House.

The leaders of Germany, France, Denmark, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Turkey, Finland, Sweden, Chechy and Romania, as well as the Secretary General of NATO and the Presidents of the European Commission and the European Council, should participate in the summit on Sunday.

The British leader’s declaration said that the main discussion subjects will include additional military support for Ukraine, increased economic pressure on Russia, the need for a “strong” and “sustainable” peace agreement which guarantees that Ukraine is able to dissuade and defend against future Russian attacks, as well as plan “solid security guarantees” provided by foreign partners.

“In partnership with our allies, we must intensify our preparations for the European element of security guarantees, in addition to continuous discussions with the United States,” Starmer said in a statement.

On Saturday, Zelenskyy thanked Starmer for its “significant and warm” reception in London. The president also confirmed that Ukraine and London had signed an agreement allowing kyiv to access the income generated by Russian financial assets frozen in the United Kingdom

“I thank the people and the government of the United Kingdom for their enormous support from the start of this war,” said Zelenskyy on social networks. “We are happy to have such strategic partners and to share the same vision of what a sure future should look like everyone.”

Zelenskyy should also meet King Charles III on Sunday, confirmed the spokesman for the Ukrainian leader to ABC News.
